Summary

A great game - on a beautiful day at the beautiful Chiswick House - which rendered the result irrelevant. Just as well, because as the game ended the fielding side wasn't sure if it had won, lost or tied the game. Due to a free TVL weekend for CLCC 4s, this was a friendly. Sheen Park were a spirited, but friendly side, and judging by the play as well as the result these were two well matched sides. Chiswick won the toss (again) and, unusually, decided to bat first. The benefit of a balanced side (batsmen, bowlers and ... er ... keeper - more of which later) became apparent. An OK start became a good start as Raheel and, especially, Aaron Henley made some significant contributions. Aaron's 60 was full of pleasing strokes and the third wicket partnership was crucial in getting 242 runs off the full 40 overs. A special mention goes to Anghad, who once again scored a personal best as he reached 17. The Sheen Park reply started well - despite a good opening spell from Satnam. It wasn't until Aaron's assorted seam 'n' spin bowling was introduced that Chiswick got the innings under control. After Aaron bowled his 8 overs, the key was variety and a variety of bowlers made important breakthroughs. A, lengthy, expensive but crucial over from Jordan saw a wicket. Ian Smith's return brought a great caught 'n' bowled off his first ball. And Ramin's spell at the end of the innings (3 for 20 off 5) nearly won the match, thanks to 2 excellent stumpings by debutant keeper John Carr. It just wasn't enough as the 9th wicket pair took Sheen to the last ball. They needed 2 to win and - just - got them. Great game. Great Chiswick performance. Man of the match: A tie between Ramin's best ever figures of 3 for 20 and Aaron's 60.
